WILLIAMSTOWN HIGH SCHOOL
working with landscape architects within an operating school campus
With classrooms opening onto an atrium, a luminous learning street and its distinctive brightly coloured water tanks, the award-winning Bayview Campus of Williamstown High School is both a model of environmental efficiency and a facilitator of environmental studies. The building features natural ventilation, solar panels, clever use of light, recycled bricks and timber flooring, and captures rainwater from water tanks for irrigation and toilet flushing.
The school has benefited from the Victorian Government's commitment to provide world class learning environments that reflect modern teaching practices and incorporate environmentally sustainable features. The school provides lighter, brighter, more open and interesting spaces than many traditionally designed schools.
Berne Fleming Civil worked with landscape architects rush\wright associates on the campus pavements and landscaping. The detail requirements were exacting and this phase of the project was safely completed during the school term while the campus was fully operational.
